(West Fargo, ND) -- West Fargo Public Schools says one of their students has been hand picked by the U.S Department of Education to potentially become a 2022 Presidential Scholar.

West Fargo High School student Samuel Ruona is among nine across North Dakota who are semifinalist candidates to become a state Presidential Scholar. Students are selected due to their high ACT/SAT performances, or have been personally selected by North Dakota Superintendent Kirsten Baesler because of academic successes. From the nine semifinalist candidates, two will be chosen as the state's 2022 Presidential Scholars.

Those chosen will have an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in June to meet with educators and government officials.
