UPDATE: HAZMAT called to Fargo Islamic Center for suspicious package

UPDATE: (Fargo, ND) --  The Fargo Police Department responded to a report of a "suspicious package" located outside of the Islamic Society of Fargo-Moorhead.

A release sent by the Fargo Police Department says an unidentified male was showing "suspicious behavior" outside The Islamic Center, located near the 600 block of 28th Street South in Fargo. The male left a backpack near the building and left the scene. FPD's K-9 unit was deployed to the scene, and are investigating the contents of the bag. Nearby businesses are asked to shelter at this time.

Red River Valley Bomb Squad was deployed and say there were no explosive materials within the bag. Stick with WDAY Radio as more updates become available.

(Fargo, ND) -- Part of the area surrounding the Fargo Islamic Center is shut down with Hazmat crews on scene.

An initial call on the incident was put in a little after noon Wednesday for reports of a strange odor coming from the area, with Fargo Fire, Police and other units responding.

It is not known yet why Hazmat is at the building, or if there is any immediate concern for those in the surrounding area of 28th street south. Authorities are asking you to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.
