(West Fargo, ND) -- A project years in the making is almost set to begin in West Fargo.

Fire Chief Dan Fuller has told WDAY News First that on May 25th at 9 a.m, ground breaking will take place on the new West Fargo Fire Department Headquarters at 1201 10th Avenue East.

"We have the fences up now, and are hoping to get the heavy equipment into the area once load restrictions come off in the city," said Fuller. "We may have to get some water out of there, but we're excited that it's almost time for this to begin."

The project, which was upped to cost $18.5 million recently by the city commission due to rising construction and material prices, will be funded through a capital improvement sales tax, cash reserves, and a $10 million bond.

Chief Fuller says the need is major, since calls for service across the city have increased by over 300% in the past five years.
