North Dakota Highway Patrol celebrates career of K9

(Fargo, ND) -- A North Dakota Highway Patrol K9 is retiring.

Fia retired Tuesday from law enforcement after eight years with the Highway Patrol. Trooper Kristjan Helgoe is Fia's handler and the two were stationed in Fargo.  

K9 Fia's career began in 2014, which led to being deployed over 200 times. She helped with 79 felony and 217 misdemeanor drug arrests, and located numerous firearms. Her largest drug seizures include 32 pounds of meth & 35 pounds of marijuana. 

Helgoe will continue as a traffic enforcement officer.
