(West Fargo, ND) -- No injuries were reported after fire crews in West Fargo responded to a blaze on a second story deck in the city Friday afternoon.

The West Fargo Fire Department says that at approximately 3:35 p.m, crews were dispatched to the Latitude 46 apartment complex at 2915 Bluestem Drive for a reported structure fire. When they arrived on scene, they found flames on a second story deck. Crews completed a quick knock down of the fire after stretching approximately 400 feet of hose to reach the location.

The damage was contained to the deck of the apartment. The cause of the fire is the improper disposal of smoking materials. The cost of the damage is yet to be determined by the owners.

The West Fargo Fire Department would like to thank the West Fargo Police Department for their assistance on scene and the apartment complex manager who used a fire extinguisher to help contain the flames to the deck.

West Fargo Fire wants to remind residents to dispose of smoking materials in proper containers, as they are one of the leading causes of fire deaths according to the National Fire Protection Association. For more information on safe disposal, click here.
