(Fargo, ND) -- Fargo Cass Public Health is inviting you to participate in a Chalk-Block party to share why breastfeeding is important to you.

The public health entity is celebrating "National Breastfeeding Week" between August 1st - the 7th at their main building,1240 25th St S, Fargo. Fargo Cass Public Health is encouraging everyone to draw and write whatever they wish to describe the importance of breastfeeding.

“The health department strongly supports breastfeeding throughout the community and we look forward to providing a space to display how breastfeeding is supported in a creative, public way,” says Michelle Draxten, FCPH Breastfeeding Coordinator.

Officials say breastfeeding friendly locations are limited within Cass County. Businesses that support breastfeeding at their establishments are considered "infant friendly businesses", and there are 55 within Cass County.

“The benefits of becoming Infant Friendly are shared between the business and its employees,” says Draxten. “It’s a great way to reinforce a company’s culture and retain employees by helping new moms find balance between going back to work and caring for their infants.  Studies show breastfed babies are less likely to be sick, so their moms are less likely to miss work. It’s truly a win-win for employers and employees.”
