(Fargo, ND) -- Openings are coming for one of the most challenging, but rewarding jobs in the City of Fargo.

The Fargo Fire Department says it is actively seeking applicants to join the department’s firefighters.

The application process will be open from Monday, August 15th through Monday, September 5th, after which the department will interview and evaluate qualified applicants.

The following minimum requirements need to  be met in order to apply:

· Individuals must be at least 18 years-old.

· Possess a valid driver’s license.

· Have successfully completed 60 college semester hours or credits (in any subject).

Written and agility tests will be administered and followed by an interview process for selected candidates. Newly hired recruits will participate in the Fargo Fire Academy, a 10-week training course hosted by the department.

“The Fargo Fire Academy provides an exceptional opportunity for those interested in a career in public safety," said Fargo Fire Chief Steve Dirksen in a statement released to WDAY Radio. "It also provides the Fargo Fire Department an advantage of immersing recruits in the culture, philosophy and professionalism on which we pride ourselves.”

Fargo Fire will also host two Recruitment and Orientation Days to provide an in-depth look into a career as a firefighter and explain the hiring process to interested applicants. Meetings will be held at Fargo Fire Station #4 off 1st Ave. N. at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 17th and Tuesday, August 23rd.

Officials are encouraging individuals interested in a firefighting career to attend one of these informational meetings. Participants are asked to register in advance by emailing Division Chief Craig Nelson at CNelsonatFargoND [dot] gov.
