(Fargo, ND) -- We now know the identity of the person that had a standoff with Police late Wednesday and into the early morning hours of Thursday in North Fargo.

Fargo Police tell WDAY Radio that 35-year-old Nicholas Otten was placed under arrest following the shots incident at the Woodspring Suites hotel off 35th St. N.

Authorities say they originally got a call at 11:09 p.m. to a report of an individual experiencing a mental health emergency in the hotel. When they arrived on scene, Otten barricaded himself inside his room and fired shots.

After nearly 3 hours, Officers successfully negotiated with Otten and were able to get him to exit the hotel the Thursday morning at approximately 2:00 a.m. Otten was placed into custody and transferred to a local health care facility for evaluation.

Otten has been arrested for aggravated reckless endangerment and terrorizing and was transferred to the Cass County Jail.

The initial gunfire led to a shelter in place request from law enforcement in the area.
