(Fargo, ND) -- The numbers from the North Dakota Highway Patrol are alarming when it comes to deadly crashes on the state's roadways.

"What we are seeing recently is a lack of seatbelt use. We look at all of our fatal crashes this year, about 68 percent of our fatal crashes, and we are at 64 fatalities this year, are not wearing a seatbelt," said Captain Brian Niewind.

Niewind shared the stats while appearing on WDAY'S Bonnie and Friends. Niewind is urging drivers to always buckle up and to make sure children and their safety seats are properly secured as well. Labor Day weekend marks the end of "The 100 deadliest days of summer".
