(Grand Forks, ND) -- Construction on the Fufeng wet corn milling plant development in Grand Forks is officially on hold, for now.

The project is on pause as the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States continues work to complete a national security assessment. The committee has now requested additional filing from the company and is subjecting the project to deeper scrutiny.

Many have criticized the project, including Governor Doug Burgum and North Dakota's congressional delegation because of Fufeng's ties to the Chinese government, and the proposed plants proximity to Grand Forks Air Force Base.

Grand Forks Mayor Brandon Bochenski initally said the findings of the CIFIUS report was expected at some point this week.
