Fargo City Commission investigating claims citizens were wrongfully denied voting rights during primary election

(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo City Commission is looking into claims that some registered voters were not allowed to vote in the June election .. because electronic records wrongly indicated they weren't citizens.

"The second problem was then once they were identified as non-citizens there was confusion about how to handle them," said Commissioner Arlette Preston.

Preston says the commission has requested the county review the claims and provide a follow up report to the commission. Preston says if the report identifies a problem with voter records, the commission would consider possible recommendations aimed at preventing similar problems in the future. Preston says they don't have a date by when they'll receive the report.

"We don't know the numbers. We certainly have anecdotal information from a number of individuals," said Preston.
