Assistant Cass County State's Attorney says desire for public service sparked candidacy for judge

(Fargo, ND) -- Cass County Assistant State's Attorney Connie Cleveland is talking about why she'd like to be elected Judge for the Eastern Central District.

"I think that it is a combination of my background and the experience I've had. I've had a long history throughout my life, in fact in my childhood, of being involved in public service. I served in the legislature when I was in college for two terms and that was an amazing opportunity. I served on the Judicial Committee at that time for both terms," said Cleveland.

Cleveland has been a prosecutor since 1989. She joined the Cass County State's Attorney Office in 1991, after serving in a similar position in Burleigh County. She captured 41 percent of the vote in the June Primary. In the November election, she is running against West Fargo attorney David Chapman. The winner will replace Judge Steven Marquart, who is not seeking re-election. The winner will serve a six year term.
