(Moorhead, MN) -- Multiple Moorhead city leaders are actively voicing their support for an upcoming ballot measure for the November General Election.

Moorhead Mayor Shelly Carlson spoke to a room of city residents about the half cent sales tax, and a Downtown Community Center and Library that would be built from the funds gathered by the tax. Mayor Carlson says the facility would include a walking path, a "makers space" for entrepreneurs that would utilize 3-D printers and a podcast room, a coffee shop, and more.

"If we don't get the vote on Tuesday, then we probably aren't going to be getting community center in the near future, and then we also do have to look at how we are going to renovate our current library, "said Mayor Carlson, "It is a very antiquated building, it has a lot of infrastructure issues. HVAC needs to be replaced, the roof needs to be replaced, the carpet needs to be replaced, the lighting needs to be replaced."

WDAY Radio spoke with attendees of the meeting following it's conclusion. The residents all shared support for the Downtown Community Center.

"I think it's a great thing for our community to compete with Fargo a bit more, "said the resident, "If Moorhead were to have this facility, it would give us opportunities for our kids, families, and people coming in to visit the area."
