Former chairman of North Dakota Democratic-NPL remembered as skilled leader and devoted father

(Fargo, ND) -- The former chairman of the North Dakota Democratic-NPL is being remembered not only as a skilled leader and lawyer but also as a loving father.

"He couldn't have been a better dad. He was the kind of dad that was always around, whether it's watching football games or choir concerts or whatever it was that his kids were involved with. He was there. The kind of dad that manned the grill for hours at the lake cabin," said Mac Schneider.

Mac Schneider talked about his father Mark Schneider, who died from cancer Tuesday. He was 74. Schneider devoted most of his professional life to serving as a labor lawyer, and most recently testified in support of an assisted suicide bill. He started a local law practice which Mac now runs. In retirement, Schneider wrote a novel about an Irish family, "She Has the Right of It".

"I think the reason he was such a committed democrat is because of some of the life experiences that he had. He worked as a member of the local Teamsters Union at the Fairway Foods warehouse in north Fargo. Also worked at his dad's Firestone store in downtown Fargo and really through those jobs became devoted to the basic concept of an honest day's wage for an honest day's work," said Schneider.
