FBI agents team up with Fargo Police in first-of-its kind crime "outreach" at apartment complex

(Fargo, ND) -- For the first time ever, FBI agents worked with Fargo police officers in conducting an "outreach" aimed at building relationships at an apartment complex where crime is a problem.

"The main reason for the outreach is there was a little bit of an uptick and anecdotal information coming into us that there was a rising crime and we had a number of violent incidents where there was shots fired," said Fargo Police Lieutenant Mike Bernier.

Bernier says the outreach November 8th at The Arbors in Fargo allowed officers and agents the chance to question residents about crime in the complex and answer any questions residents might have. Bernier says the FBI proposed the operation to Fargo police at the complex, which has a history of violent crime, including reports of shots fired. The lieutenant says the operation was a success, and says similar outreaches could be performed in other neighborhoods in the future.
