(Moorhead, MN) -- The leader of a local organization that exposes people to arts, nature, food, music and other growth opportunities is being honored by the City of Moorhead.
During Monday's City Council meeting, Mayor Shelly Carlson presented Peter Ferguson with the MoorHeart award.
Ferguson is committed to youth outreach through the nonprofit "Enrichment Operation." He encourages everyone in Moorhead to become better versions of themselves through enrichment opportunities with exposure to the arts, nature, food, music, and the joy that comes with giving back.
Peter’s nomination included the following statement:
“I wish every community had a Peter! You would be hard pressed to find a finer example of an outstanding Moorhead citizen. Through his non-profit, Enrichment Operation, Peter reaches children in our community and provides them with experiences such as fishing, camping, crafts, hunting, and learning life skills. I wish every child had a friend, mentor, champion, and cheerleader on their side – just like Peter. We are so fortunate to have him as a Moorhead citizen. He works so hard and does nothing for recognition. Without his support, many would not have the opportunity to enjoy these types of activities. He simply wants kids to feel love and success. He has a way of bringing out the best in others and helping them realize how important they are to our world. He is a treasure to our community!”
Carlson noted that for all Peter does for Moorhead – and especially for the way he is effecting change in support for teachers and their students – the MoorHeart selection committee chose Peter to receive the MoorHeart Award.
The MoorHeart award is an opportunity to recognize individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate community within the City by their actions and service. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects award recipients. The MoorHeart award is commemorated with a piece of art commissioned from Moorhead-based artist Karman Rheault especially for this purpose.
