Fargo Police Department releases report into officer-involved shooting death of 28-year-old suspect Shane Netterville

(Fargo, ND) -- The Fargo Police Department has released the investigative report related to the independent criminal investigation into the deadly officer-involved shooting on Friday, July 8th, 2022. The shooting resulted in the death of 28-year-old suspect Shane Netterville. 

Officers were called to the 1500 block of 34th St. S. on a report that three men were slumped over inside a van parked in a garage. After officers arrived, Netterville drove the van toward the officers, causing officer Adam O'Brien to shoot Netterville, who died hours later at a local hospital. 

The criminal investigation was completed by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The report, containing redactions as required by law, can be found online at FargoND.gov/Newsroom.

The police department advises the use of reader discretion, as the report contains sensitive subject matter including profanity and the use of firearms. In accordance with North Dakota Century Code, redactions to incident caller and witness identifying information have been made.

North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley conducted a prosecutorial review of the incident and concluded Officer O’Brien’s actions were justified by law. Wrigley announced his conclusion Monday, August 29th, during a joint news conference.
