Employee for City of Moorhead accused of embezzling public funds

(Fargo, ND) -- Moorhead City officials are commenting after a city employee was accused of embezzling public funds. The employee involved in the alleged scheme is identified as Lindsey Sorenson. Moorhead City Manager Dan Mahl told WDAY News First city officials took "corrective action" once the issue was discovered, and said authorities were contacted.

"All rebates are currently being sent through the City of Moorhead Finance Office," said Mahl. The rebates were mailed to the city from Menards. 

Amy Settergen, the city's Human Resources Director says Sorenson remains employed by the city as an Office Specialist. She was hired September 19th, 2016. Settergen says city officials are investigating the complaint and will consider a future course of action. Sorenson is currently on paid leave from employment with the city. The leave began October 12th. 

Moorhead Police Captain Deric Swnson said the department won't comment on the case.
