(Cass County, ND) -- We now know the name of the woman killed in a fatal crash early New Years Day in Cass County.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has confirmed to WDAY Radio that the woman, 19-year-old Destinee Tuttle, was standing in the left southbound lane of I-29 near Oxbow when she was struck and killed by a car drive by 20-year-old Gabriel Schroeder.

Troopers say Schroeder attempted to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting Tuttle, but was unsuccessful. Eventually Schroeder's Chevy Malibu came to rest in the center median and was stuck in snow.

Schroeder and his passenger, 20-year-old Ashanti Ashpole, were not injured from the incident.

The crash does remain under investigation by the Highway Patrol, and to this point no charges have been filed against Schroeder, who has been cooperative with authorities.
