Grand Forks tech firm CEO discusses new perimeter security solution for US Air Force base

(Fargo, ND) -- The head of a tech start-up in Grand Forks is commenting, after his company won a $1.2 million federal award to build a new security system for Grand Forks Air Force Base.

"It is a complex technology, it does involve artificial intelligence as well, but we are making all of this complex technology easy to use," said Thread founder and CEO Dr. Josh Reidy.

Reidy says his company is creating a solution that will use drones, artificial intelligence, and software to enhance security around the base. Part of the goal is to free up base personnel to focus on other security concerns.

"We are now pivoting to apply that technology to our United States military and the Grand Forks Air Force Base so that they have a solution that not only flies the perimeter of the base but will help them assess the condition of that perimeter," said Reidy.

Senator John Hoeven announced the award for Thread last week.

“This project is all about enhancing the mission of the 319 Security Forces Squadron at the Grand Forks Air Force Base, improving the safety of their working conditions and streamlining their operations,” said Hoeven. “By partnering AFWERX with Thread and utilizing this region’s UAS expertise, we’re working to ensure this critical base is secure against threats and can continue to support the unmanned ISR missions that our warfighters depend on.”
