(Moorhead, MN) -- A beacon in the local Fargo-Moorhead community is being honored.
CEO of Churches United Pastor Sue Koesterman was honored by the Moorhead City Council Monday night as the latest recipient of the Moorheart Award. Pastor Sue is committed to her service of reaching out and helping our neighbors in need, whether that be through shelter, food, or some other compassionate act. She also encourages everyone in Moorhead to remember and advocate for those around us who are struggling with homelessness and poverty.
Her nomination included the following statement:
“Pastor Sue Koesterman is known for her achievements as the current CEO of Churches United. For the past six years, her leadership and guidance have impacted countless individuals through her steadfast commitment to treating others with compassion, concern, dignity, and respect. In everything (Churches United does), Pastor Sue is at the forefront setting the example and advocating for our community. She even took an extra step – or paw – by having her rescue dog, Wanda, certified as an emotional support animal. As an employee of Churches United, my nomination is more than professional, but also personal, as I strive to be the leader she is today because Pastor Sue Koesterman truly is here for every neighbor in need.”
"For all she does for Moorhead – and especially for the way she was able to navigate the effects of the pandemic through her adaptable work ethic –the MoorHeart selection committee chose Sue Koesterman to receive the MoorHeart Award," said Mayor Shelly Carlson during the announcement. "Sue is a great example of the MoorHeart spirit. Her relentless drive, problem-solving and compassion for everyone around her makes Moorhead a better place."
The MoorHeart award is an opportunity to recognize individuals who go above and beyond to demonstrate community within our City by their actions and service. A team of volunteers from city boards and commissions selects award recipients. The MoorHeart award is commemorated with a piece of art commissioned from Moorhead-based artist Karman Rheault especially for this purpose.
