FMWF Chamber executive: business owners "coming out of the woodwork" over Minnesota paid leave bill

(Fargo, ND) -- Business leaders are among those speaking out against a paid leave bill which Minnesota democrats expect will become law.

"We've had more engagement on this issue from our Minnesota businesses than any other issue we've brought forward in previous sessions in recent history. So the businesses are coming out of the woodwork really speaking against it," said Katherine Grindberg, Executive Vice President for the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce.

Grindberg is talking about the bill sponsored by DFL State Senator Alice Mann. The bill would provide up to 12 weeks of paid medical leave for significant medical issues and up to 12 weeks of paid family leave for the birth of a child.

"The free enterprise is already taking care of providing these sorts of benefits. So it's not that employees aren't getting some of these sorts of benefits from their employers already. That is certainly happening across the region," said Grindberg.
