Update: Charges filed following Shelter in place order in South Fargo

(Update: 1:41 p.m) -- Authorities have identified a suspect following a shelter in place order in South Fargo on Wednesday. 

The Fargo Police Department says 23-year-old Patrick Opdahl barricaded himself in a residence located in the 3800 block of 21st St. S. around 6:17 pm. Authorities says Opdalh had outstanding warrants for Failure to Appear for Fleeing a Peace Officer (C Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphilia, Preventing Arrest (C Felony), Refusing to Halt and Reckless Endangerment. Officials say the list of charges led them to the decision to call the Red River Valley SWAT Team to assist. Authorities say Opdahl surrendered and was taken into custody at 12:15 a.m on Thursday, February 2nd, and transfered to a local health care facility for an evaluation. 

 “I would like to compliment the hard work and dedication of our officers. Due to their quick initial response and diligent work throughout the duration of the incident, we were able to ensure residents in the neighborhood remained safe, "said Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski, "The FPD expresses its sincere appreciation to the Red River Valley SWAT Team and their members who are specifically trained in crisis negotiation. The collaborated efforts played a crucial role in safely apprehending the suspect and bringing this dangerous individual into custody.”

Opdahl is currently in the Cass County Jail, and as been charged with Reckless Endangerment, Preventing Arrest and Terrorizing.

Update: Shelter in place lifted at 12:15am. The 23-year old suspect was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.  No one was hurt.  Police were initially called to a residence in the 3800 block of 21st St. S. around 6:17 pm.  It was reported that the individual was suicidal and fired a round and pointed a gun at individuals that were known to him.

Any residents within this location are encouraged to stay away from windows and move to basement areas if possible.

FPD Officers are responding to an incident involving a suicidal male who has barricaded himself inside a residential home.
