(Fargo, ND) -- The Cass County Jail Chaplains group has a new leader.

"So what are we looking at in the future? It's to do this work together. It's to obey the call of Jesus together, to go and share his good news with all the nations and make disciples, and that's what we're doing through this ministry," said Mike Little.

Little, the current head of the North Dakota Dental Foundation, will be taking over leadership of the Jail Chaplains. He'll be replacing Gerri Leach who is retiring after serving in the position for 11 years.

Little initially declined the position but says he changed his mind after receiving encouragement from his pastor at church.

"Criminals are not the enemy. They are the hostages of the enemy. We have come to set them free in the name of Jesus Christ," said Little.

Leach will remain on staff until June to help Little transition into is new position.

Sheriff Jesse Jahner endorsed the work of the Jail Chaplains, saying he doesn't want the jail to be a warehouse for people.
