(Fargo, ND) -- An alarming trend has emerged when it comes to sexually transmitted diseases in North Dakota.
"What people can really do to protect themselves and others that they love are really, you know, having those open and frank conversations with their healthcare provider about their sexual health, the types of sex they're having," said Lindsey Vanderbusch, the Director for the state's Sexually Transmitted and Bloodborne Disease Unit.
Vanderbusch is commenting after ValuePenguin released the results of their survey of statistics provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It shows the state leads the nation when it comes to the growth rate for the spread of STDs. From 2000 to 2020. the increase was 369%.
Vanderbusch says the state promotes campaigns aimed at reducing risk when it comes to sexual activity, including the use of contraceptives, limiting the number of partners, and abstinence.
