Fargo man arrested following stabbing attempt in Polk County

(Hill River Township, MN) -- A Fargo resident is in custody and facing charges following a non-fatal stabbing in Hill River Township

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says Zachary Papke, a 35-year-old male from Altoona, Iowa, was staying with a group of people in a cabin in Section 19 of the township when the stabbing occurred. According to a statement released to WDAY Radio by the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Papke claims he was sitting at a table when he was "the victim of an unprovoked attack" from Daniel Mengedoth, a 51-year-old male from Fargo, ND. Authorities say Mengedoth used a pocketknife in the stabbing against Papke.

The Sheriff's department says Mangedoth was arrested and charged with 1st degree assault. He is currently being held in the Northwest Regional Correctional Center in Crookston.

An investigation is ongoing.
