(Fargo, ND) -- A Fargo Police Captain is sharing several positive experiences following his graduation from a national academy put on by the Federal Bureau of Investigation

The FBI National Academy is for law enforcement personnel in our region, but also for interested national and international agencies. 246 officers visited the academy in Quantico, Virginia, and experienced ten weeks of training for communication skills, leadership and fitness training, and more. A total of 54,154 have completed the academy since its debut year in 1935.

"It was just a fantastic opportunity for me to go out and improve my skills, improve my knowledge, and expand my horizons [...] "said Fargo Police Captain Chris Helmick in an interview on WDAY Midday, "I received a lot of great instruction and got to work on my physical fitness a little bit too. It was just a great all-around experience."

Captain Helmick currently oversees Fargo Police Department's Neighborhood Services Division. He says some of the biggest things he learned from the experience include methods for interacting with the public and media, improving officer wellness within the industry, and sharing methods and tactics between attending agencies.

“On behalf of the Fargo Police Department, I congratulate Captain Helmick on this notable accomplishment, "said Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski, "I am immeasurably proud of the members of our organization who have graduated from the National Academy, as they embody FPD’s values of professionalism and guardianship.”
