Moorhead Scholars offers free four-year tuition to MHS graduates

MOORHEAD, Minn. – Minnesota State University Moorhead announces a partnership to offer full, four-year tuition to Moorhead High School graduates with a GPA of 3.0 or higher through the Moorhead Scholars program.

The aid will first be offered to 2025 graduates who apply for the FAFSA by May 1 and enroll in MSUM next fall.

The university says the aid package will be paid through a combination of federal, state and institutional grants and scholarships.

“We are proud to partner with Moorhead Area Public Schools in offering this opportunity for Moorhead’s brightest students,” said Dr. Tim Downs, President of MSU Moorhead. “By investing in the next generation of scholars, we are investing in the future of our community.”

MSUM says Moorhead Scholars is a last-dollar program “designed to recognize and reward academic excellence by covering any remaining tuition costs at MSUM after all available gift aid has been applied.”

“This program aligns perfectly with our goal to help students thrive in a changing world,” said Moorhead Area Public Schools Superintendent Brandon Lunak. “We believe in supporting academic achievement and opening doors to higher education right here in Moorhead.”

Lunak adds 270 Moorhead High School seniors are eligible for Moorhead Scholars.

“The Moorhead Scholars program will do more than support students – it is building a stronger Moorhead,” said Mayor Shelly Carlson. “The future of our community depends on empowering the next generation, and this program does exactly that.”

Minnesota has the North Star Promise which covers tuition and fees for Minnesotans whose family has an adjusted gross income under $80,000 studying at a state college or university or tribal college in the state.
