Report: June Heatwave Was 'Most Extreme' On Record For North America

(Berkeley, CA) -- A new report says last month's heat wave in the northwestern U.S. and Southwest Canada was "the most extreme summer heatwave" ever recorded in North America.

According to the nonprofit Berkeley Earth, record temperatures were almost 36 degrees hotter than average in June. Blazing temperatures fed wildfires while there were at least 194 heat-related deaths in the U.S. and 570 deaths in Canada.

Thousands of people were also admitted into the hospital with heat-related symptoms.
