House, Senate Approve Budget Extension to Avoid Government Shutdown

(Washington, DC) -- A government shutdown is being averted.

A bill extending government funding to December 3rd is headed to President Biden's desk after final passage by the House. The government runs out of money at midnight and that prompted fears of a shutdown.

Republicans agreed to support the government funding bill when Senate Democrats stripped an extension of the federal debt limit. That cleared the path for "yes" votes in the Senate and House.

The debt limit extension will be taken up separately in the Senate after earlier passage by the House.
