(Washington, DC) -- Initial jobless claims are on the rise again.

The U.S. Labor Department says 230-thousand Americans filed first-time claims for unemployment benefits last week.

That number is up 23-thousand from the previous week's figure.

In the meantime, a key indicator of inflation is rising ever so slightly. The December Producer Price Index rose by zero-point-two percent. That's lower than the one-percent jump the index saw in November.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says final demand prices jump nine-point-seven percent last year. That's the biggest increase in a calender year since 2010 when figures were first collected.
