(Boulder County, CO) -- The cities of Louisville and Superior, Colorado, came dangerously close to running out of water as firefighters battled the Marshall Fire.

KUSA-TV reports two water facilities in Louisville were struggling to meet demand on December 30th after Superior's plant was damaged by the fire and went offline. Louisville public works employees were forced to release raw, untreated water into their system to keep fire hydrants from going dry.

The fire is considered the most destructive in Colorado history after burning more than a thousand homes in Boulder County last month.
