(Washington, DC) -- President Biden says he's considering personal sanctions against Vladimir Putin if Russia invades Ukraine.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Biden was asked if he would consider imposing sanctions on Putin directly if Russia invaded Ukraine, and Biden said yes he would. The threat comes as NATO sends more ships and fighter jets to the region in response to a massive Russian military buildup at Ukraine's border.

Russia is calling for security demands from NATO. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday those demands include a guarantee that Ukraine will never be allowed to join the European alliance.

Biden does say however he has no intention to put the nation's military forces in Ukraine.
