(Washington, DC) -- The Treasury Department is reconsidering IRS use of facial recognition software for access to the tax agency's website.

Bloomberg reports Treasury and the IRS are looking for alternatives to ID.me because of privacy concerns about the software brand. Concerns started ramping up for privacy advocates after the IRS announced it will require people to enroll with ID.me before they can file their taxes online.

Taxpayers will be required to provide the Virginia-based company with their government ID, a copy of a utility bill, and a video selfie.
