(Mowcow, Russia) -- A Moscow court has ruled against Meta, determining the company hosts "extremist activity" on their platforms.

Moscow's Tverskoi District Court said in a press statement a lawsuit was upheld the ban on company activities within the nation. Romskomnadzor, the communications director within Russia, says Meta will be excluded from a foreign entities list who are able to operate on the Internet within Russia. The move effectively bans Facebook and Instagram from the nation.

One app left untouched is WhatsApp, which is also under Meta's cooperate umbrella. They are still able to function within Russia.

"The decision does not apply to the activities of Meta's messenger WhatsApp, due to its lack of functionality for the public dissemination of information", said the courts in a statement on the matter.
