(Washington, DC) -- The former White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator says the U.S. should prepare for a summer surge.

Appearing on CBS' Face the Nation, Dr. Deborah Birx said health officials have seen a wave of new cases across the southern U.S. for the past two years. She stressed that immunity against the coronavirus decreases after several months and reminded everyone that fully vaccinated people can still be infected.

Dr. Birx also recommended testing for five days following possible exposure to COVID, especially if you plan on coming into contact with vulnerable people.
