CDC: First year of pandemic saw 35-percent increase in gun homicides

(Washington, D.C) -- Gun homicides hit a 25-year high during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The information comes from the CDC, who says gun violence went up 35-percent in the first year of the pandemic. In 2019, 14,000 people died from guns. That number jumped by 5,000, to a total of 19,000 people.

The reason for the surge is not known at this time, but the CDC suspects the social disruption of schools, work, and social services played a role.
