(Washington, DC) -- Pfizer's COVID vaccine could soon be cleared for the youngest children.

A briefing document the agency released Sunday says the vaccine is safe and effective for children ages six months to five years old. A panel of independent FDA experts will consider emergency use authorization of the vaccine when it meets on Wednesday.

The FDA also will consider a request by drug maker Moderna for emergency use authorization of its vaccine for children in that age group.
