(Washington, DC) -- The White House is watching movement in the Senate on a bipartisan measure aimed at curbing gun violence.

Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas said there's an urgency to pass the measure. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called it the most significant firearms legislation in roughly two decades. She noted it doesn't include everything President Biden wants, including a ban on military-style assault weapons and a greater expansion of background checks.

The Senate effort includes enhanced review for gun buyers under the age of 21 and incentives for states to enact "red flag" laws, among other provisions.
