(Washington, DC) -- A senior White House official is defending President Biden's tweet that calls on gas companies to lower their prices.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, National Security Council coordinator John Kirby doubled down on the commander-in-chief's efforts "across many fronts" to ease the pain at the pump. That includes placing a price cap on Russian oil, asking Congress for a gas tax holiday, and releasing oil from the nation's strategic reserve.

Kirby said "if everyone cooperates," prices could be brought down by at least a dollar a gallon.

As of Monday, the national average cost of a gallon of gas was four-80.
