(Washington, DC) -- The Justice Department is suing Arizona to block a state law that requires voters to provide proof of citizenship.

The department says the law that takes effect in January violates the National Voter Registration Act by requiring proof of citizenship to vote in presidential elections or to vote by mail in any federal election.

The law was put in place following concern of voter fraud and issues during the 2020 Presidential election.
