(Sacramento, CA) -- California Governor Gavin Newsom says his state will begin producing its own insulin in a move to reduce the cost of the life-saving medication.

In a video Thursday, Newsom said the budget he signed on June 30th will spend 100-million dollars on developing and manufacturing low-cost insulin, to make it more available and affordable in California.

Newsom said many people pay 300 to 500 dollars a month for insulin, but California's insulin will cost half that amount.
