(London) -- The United Kingdom has a new prime minister.

The Conservative Party announced Monday that Foreign Secretary Liz Truss will take over the position.

Boris Johnson said he was stepping down nearly two months ago after a series of scandals. Truss defeated former finance minister Rishi Sunak in a vote held by the Conservative Party.

Queen Elizabeth The Second is expected to meet with Truss in Scotland Tuesday.

Truss takes office facing a cost-of-living crisis that has seen energy costs and inflation soar in the U.K. recently.
