(Menlo Park, CA) -- Facebook parent Meta says, from now on, it's going to be harder to land in "Facebook Jail."

The social media giant says it's reforming its penalty system so that people will be less likely to have their accounts restricted for less serious violations of the company's policies.

Meta said in a blog post on Thursday that it will focus on helping people understand why their content was removed.

Until now, users could find themselves prevented from posting on Facebook for 30 days at a time for relatively minor policy violations.
