(Oklahoma City, OK) -- Oklahoma voters are saying no to a referendum that would have legalized recreational marijuana for adults.

State Question 820 was defeated on Tuesday by a margin of 63 to 37 percent.

Republican Governor Kevin Stitt says the vote was the best thing to keep kids safe.

Oklahoma's medical marijuana business, meanwhile, has been booming, with about 12-thousand licensed businesses and nearly 400-thousand enrolled patients.
