WDAY RADIO — Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and American Paul Whelan will be released by Russia in a prisoner swap with the U.S. and other countries.
Multiple reports are confirming the expectation after an early morning announcement on Thursday. Gershkovich was sentenced to 16 years in prison by Russia after being found guilty of espionage. The Wall Street Journal and the U.S. government have said he was wrongfully imprisoned.
Whelan has been detained since 2018 on espionage charges.
A total of 26 prisoners between seven countries are under exchange, according to Turkish state officials
