(FARGO) – The Fargo School Board held its required hearing related to the budget Tuesday night as a part of its regular school board meeting.
Only one member of the community spoke regarding the budget.
Charles Canning, a south Fargo resident, spoke on the fact that his tax bill increased more than $1,000; with the school district accounting for 74 percent of the increase.
“How much longer can this go on,” Canning questioned.
He’s a retired man with a few ‘small pensions,’ but due to inflation, he has had to pick up part-time work.
Regarding the school district, Canning said he’s concerned the district has become ‘self-perpetuating.’
“We need to focus this like a business. We need to focus on the basics of educating our children to the best of our capabilities,” he said.
Canning suggested that potentially some administrative positions could be cut, as a cost-saving measure.
He also said future elections will see ‘a lot more fiscal conservatives on the board.’
“Mr. Superintendent, I would suggest you keep your resume up-to-date, sir,” Canning said. “In case that does happen.”
