Minneapolis To Start Fortifying City Ahead Of Chauvin Trial

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Minneapolis officials say they will start fortifying the city in the coming days to prepare for the trial of the former police officer accused of killing George Floyd.  Jury selection begins in Derek Chauvin's [[ SHO-vin's ]] trial March 8th.  The city said it would start placing fortifications around key government buildings and police precincts.  The city is warning residents there will be an increase in law enforcement along commercial corridors that were damaged last year.  Officials are urging business owners to consider updating their insurance and possibly boarding up their buildings.Floyd died in police custody on Memorial Day last year.  Chauvin is the white officer seen in the viral video of the Black man's death kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes.  He is being charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
