House Members Pass Measure To Create Student IDs That Double As Voter IDs

(Bismarck, ND)  --  State lawmakers are moving ahead with legislation to authorize the North Dakota Board of Higher Education to print ID cards so they can be used as valid voter identification.  House members say, if enacted, HR1447 would authorize state higher-education officials to print ID cards that include the student's college address, enabling those cards to serve as proper voter identification.  The proposed cards reportedly would not affect the student's official residency.  Last week, the measure passed a house vote of 87 to seven.  It still needs state senate approval before it can reach the governor's desk.
