ND Forms Wildland Fire Task Force

(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota Forest Service and the Department of Emergency Services are forming a program to expand the state's firefighting abilities and resources.

The Wildland Fire Task Force will allow local fire departments to respond outside their jurisdictions if needed. Departments typically volunteer to be assigned to the task force for week-long time periods with 12-hour shifts, but assignments can be extended for 21 days.

There have been more than 17-hundred fires this year that have burned more than 112-thousand acres.
